Love is Quarantine the New Love is Blind Spin-off

Love is Quarantine is an inclusive social media dating experiment based on the popular reality show “Love is Blind created by two roommates living in Brooklyn, New York. Thi Q. Lam and Rance Nix are the brains behind this parody of the Netflix series Love is Blind. Their timing could not have been more perfect!!! This is dating in the era of social distancing and self-isolation. Unlike the Netflix series, Love is Quarantine is done through Instagram. Keep reading if you want to get in on the love is quarantine action.

How Love is Quarantine Sparked a Social Media Frenzy

Having recently watched Netflix’s Love is Blind, the pair launched their own parody version of the show Tuesday March 17, 2020. According to the duo, it was intended as a joke. Who knew it would have taken off the way it did? Within the first couple of hours of going live they had people going on dates from their homes. By the end of the week they had 1000s of people signing up to participate. Because what else are they going to do during self-isolation during a global pandemic? Think of it as Love is Blind meets Love in Lockdown mashup.

“Love is Blind” meets “Love in Lockdown”

The current times have created a unique situation when it comes to our social and dating lives. That goes without saying. We have been asked to go into “locked down”. Then add social (physical) distancing it makes finding love and dating challenging. Just like Love is Blind participants are paired off and go on dates through pods without ever seeing each other. All they have is the other person’s voice and personality to go by. Love is Quarantine on the other hands pairs off self-isolated singles for blind chats with total strangers through Instagram. Think of it as the social media version to the Netflix version of Love is Blind with a twist. If we do the math, Love + Quarantine = Love is Quarantine

The Social Isolation Struggle is Real

With everything happening in the world right now, with the coronavirus crisis people are being asked to stay at home. This can get particularly challenging after the first few days. And even more so if you are single or you live alone. This makes it difficult to connect and meet people like we normally would in real life. Social distancing has become the new normal. But clearly, it is not without its challenges. Social distancing can be mentally, emotionally, and physically taxing. After a while it takes a toll on you. So, if you are looking for love or just a genuine connection with another human, this could be a possible answer. No harm in checking it out. Because, if Lauren Speed and Cameron Hamilton found love on Netflix's Love is Blind. Then anything is possible! There is a lot we can learn from them.

So How the Whole Love is Quarantine Thing Works?

If you are interested, you can slide into the @LoveIsQuarantine’s DMs on Instagram to get the process rolling. You provide your first name only, age, sex, sexuality, city and phone number. The process is LGBTQ+ and Baby Boomer friendly. Rance contacts you to confirm your participation. Thi places you on the infamous Google Sheet aka the “pandemic pod”. Then the fun begins and you are connected to your potential matches. To get the conversation going you are given some conversation prompts/starters. Now that you have broken the ice it is up to you to decide where the conversation goes from there. Your homework is to create short videos before, during and after your interactions with your potential hopefuls which are then shared on Instagram. I think the reason it has taken off is that it is real, raw, unfiltered and unscripted.

What Happens if There is a Quarantine Connection

Now if you hit it off, there is the big reveal on the "Love Is Quarantine" Instagram page where you see who you have been taking to in the pods. At this point you are free to keep talking and see where things go. For those couples who make it beyond the quarantine they will have the post-quarantine honeymoon reunion at Popeye's.

Is “Love is Quarantine” for You?

Love is Quarantine what do you think? Yay or nay? It may not be for everyone, but for those who are looking for love during social distancing this could be one way to fill the time. Whether it be love or a genuine or soul connection with another person this could be something. We all crave connection in some way or form. But during these current times where self-isolation and quarantine have become the new normal for many of us around the world now more than ever, we want to be connected. So why not use this time to create your own “Love is Quarantine” connection. At the end of the day according to Lam, “People are hungry for connection; they’re hungry for community. And they really still want to find love.” So, give it a whirl. You never know who you may meet.

The Beauty Behind Love is Quarantine

I am not sure what Thi and Rance’s idea was beyond the dating aspect of their social media experiment. But I believe there is deeper and powerful meaning at play. Going deeper, if you think about it the act of self-quarantining ourselves is one way for us to show the world and each other our love. By staying home and staying safe we are showing love. It really is the ultimate sacrifice for humanity. Because there is so much at stake right now. That if we don’t do as we have been asked (self-isolate, self-quarantine, social/physical distancing) it could lead to our own detriment. So, thank you to Thi and Rance for coming up with this genius idea to help people continue to connect, find love and give us hope during these uncertain times. Let’s all do our part to be safe and keep each other safe.

A Little Love is Quarantine Can Go a Long Way

Their mission is to "spread a little joy, spread a little love, maybe make some connections." While reality TV shows have paused production amidst the pandemic, love is quarantine is moving full steam ahead to provide an avenue for digital meet-ups to happen. So if you are “love is quarantine” curious and you want to learn more about their experiment you can check their website here or follow them on their IG page where all the Love is Quarantine action goes down here. You just might find your QuaranBae. If you decide to purchase any of their merch just know that 100% of proceeds go to helping Covid-19 relief efforts. I think what they have done is brilliant. Right now, the world needs all the help, love and support it can get. So, lets do our part. Because the world needs us to.
